DURRANT, Roy Turner

Roy Turner Durrant (1925-1998) was born in Lavenham, Suffolk and attended Camberwell School. He was much influenced by Keith Vaughan and John Minton. During the 1950s his style developed from figuration into abstraction. Buchman records that any titles on pictures were ”meant to be interpreted as poetry, to engender a state of mind rather than describe what the particular picture is”. Durrant was Director of the Heffer Gallery and also a member of the NEAC and regularly exhibited with the RA. Among other collections, Durrant’s work is represented in the Imperial War Museum, Bradford City Art Gallery and Balliol College, Oxford.
