LE BAS, Rachel

Rachel Le Bas RE, NEAC (1923-2020) was educated at W. Heath School, Sevenoaks and City and Guilds of London Art School from 1946. Le Bas had been a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy since 1945 and at the New English Art Club (a member since 1972). Le Bas was also a member of the Art Workers’ Guild (AWG). Le Bas’ greatest strength was her draftsmanship and etching / aquatints depicting landscape scenes, mostly of rural England – the West Country in particular – but also urban scenes of Paris and Pont Aven, France. Examples of Le Bas’ work are held by The Government Art Collection, Exeter Museum and the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, among others. Rachel Le Bas lived in Minehead, Somerset.
