Michael Canney was born in Falmouth in 1923 and attaended St Ives School of Painting under Leonard Fuller. After the War, Canney studied at Goldsmith’s. It was just after this training that Canney started exploring relief and neo-Cubist work. In 1956 Canney was appointed curator of Newlyn Art Gallery and taught at Plymouth.This teaching experience took hin to Santa Barbara as a lecturer.Exhibited at the Boundary Gallery and represented in numerous public collections. Died in 2003.
