Modern British Gallery offers a large selection of affordable oils, watercolours and limited edition prints by major British artists.

AITCHISON, Jim

Jim Aitchison is both an artist and a composer. He makes landscapes and figures, exploring uncertain correspondences between art and music. He works largely on paper in oil pastel, using processes of extended transformation (palimpsest, blurring, layering, scraping off, sgraffito etc.).

As a composer, he responds to visual artists’ work, notably Terry Frost, John Hoyland, Antony Gormley, Anthony Caro, Doris Salcedo, Anish Kapoor, Gerhard Richter, Anselm Kiefer and James Turrell, working with The Tate, the RA, the Henry Moore Institute, and Roche Court. He was commissioned by Tate Modern to respond in music to Tate’s 2008/9 Rothko show, was a Henry Moore Fellow in 2008, a research fellow at the Royal Academy of Music in 2011-14, and is a doctoral researcher at Leeds University.

His art has been shown at galleries in London and the Southwest and is in private collections in the USA and Europe, belonging to figures such as film critic Mark Kermode and Master of the King’s Music Errollyn Wallen. www.jimaitchison.org
