GILL, Eric – ‘The Chaucer Collection’

Gill illustrated Chaucer’s ‘The Canterbury Tales’ with two wood engravings to each text page, bordering the text to the left and right. These pairs of wood engravings were so distinctive, they were presented without Chaucer’s text by Cleverdon in 1929 (edition of 480) and Faber in 1934 (edition of 400). In these editions, all the wood engravings were printed directly from Gill’s wood blocks.
